The filter bag is a key component in the operation of dust collectors, typically suspended vertically in a cylindrical shape within the filter. The fabric and design of the filter bag should strive for efficient filtration, easy dust release, and durability.

In a pulse dust collector, dust adheres to the outer surface of the filter bag. When dust-laden gas passes through the filter, dust is collected on the outer surface of the filter bag, while clean gas enters the interior of the filter bag through the filter material. The cage inside the filter bag supports the bag, preventing it from collapsing, and also aids in the removal and redistribution of the dust cake.

Filter materials are made from fibers, including cotton fibers, wool fibers, synthetic fibers, and glass fibers, each with different performance characteristics. Commonly used filter materials include 208 or 901 polyester velvet fabric, with a typical operating temperature not exceeding 120°C. Glass fiber filter bags treated with silicone resin can typically operate at temperatures not exceeding 250°C, while cotton and wool fabrics are generally suitable for non-corrosive dust-laden gases at temperatures below 80-90°C.
